GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Health Economics and Policy Unit (HEPU) is a joint effort from Malawi government, Ministry of Health and KUHES through Thanzi La Onse project with the aim to strengthen capacity and research in health economics, policy and ethical modelling in Malawi.
TLO’s core objective is to improve population health and reduce health inequity in Malawi. It aims to achieve this by developing a model of Malawi’s health care system which will reflect the health care needs of the population, the resources available (in terms of financial, human and facility resources), and how these resources are currently being deployed.
The Health Economics and Policy Unit was launched on 29th January 2019 at Ufulu Gardens in Lilongwe where the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Health cut the ribbon as a symbol of officially establishing the unit at College of Medicine Lilongwe Campus -Department of Health Systems & Policy
